Marina von Neumann Whitman is an American economist, writer and former automobile executive. From 1979 until 1992 she was an officer of the General Motors Corporation. Prior to her appointment at GM, Whitman was a member of the faculty in the Department of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. Whitman received a B.A. in government from Radcliffe College (now Harvard University), graduating at the top of her class, and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from Columbia University. John (Johann) Louis von Neumann (1903-1957) was born in Budapest and showed early signs of being a child prodigy. He entered the University of Budapest in 1921, but also attended the University of Berlin and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology before obtaining a degree in chemical engineering in 1925.
